I have heard people talking about mindfulness and how it has helped them. So I decided to find out more about it. Here is what I found.
What is mindfulness?
It is about focusing on the present, the here and now and accepting things for what they are without passing judgement. Mindfulness training is a form of mental training.
Why be mindful?
Conditions such as anxiety and depression are sadly on the rise with 1 in 4 having a mental health condition. We tend to look everywhere for answers, sometimes in the wrong places, when really everything we need comes from inside us.
What are some of the benefits?
Some of the benefits of mindfulness training include
- Reduced stress
- Reduced depression
- Combats anxiety
- Encourages sleep
Below is a press release about Shalini Bhalla's mindfulness classes.
Mindfulness – your key to
finding peace in this frantic world
Anxiety,
stress, exhaustion, depression…these seem to be the norms of living in this
fast-paced, frantic modern world. Practicing Mindfulness can bring some much
needed quiet to your busy, chattering mind.
Coming to Cranleigh and Guildford
this April, Award-winning teacher Shalini Bhalla’s Mindfulness classes are non-religious and her
scientifically based proven techniques will promote your general wellbeing;
helping you to be more present in your daily life and more
accepting of the way things are.
“I didn’t really know what to expect, thought maybe
muttering chants, cross-legged - probably not for me! How far I was from the
truth. Shalini with her calm voice, understanding, knowledgeable way showed me
that ‘mindfulness’ was literally living in the present moment; being aware of
breathing, slowly, in and out; training the mind to ease away from thoughts
(good and bad) and entering a transitional stage; where your senses are acute,
your body relaxed, your mind calm” - Lorraine.
Shalini Bhalla is a trained
Mindfulness teacher and a Mindful Movement expert; as well as being the
Creative Director of Just Jhoom! Bollywood Dance-Fitness. Join Shalini on one
