Thrive

I have tried all sorts of different techniques that do work for calming a panic attack but I sometimes have a tendency to forget some of them.  I always thought it would be great to have an app with me that had the best techniques all at my fingertips.  Thanks to Thrive, I now have what I wanted.

Thrive (previously Help) founded by Consultant Psychiatrists and Psychologists from the UK, who have created clinically proven and evidence based apps to treat and prevent mental health conditions. I was more than happy to sign up to give the app a try. It can only help surely?

After signing up, I started on the step by step tasks that are set and you must complete these. I understand that may sound annoying to you  but they are essential in helping you to relax and be more mindful which is so important when you are feeling anxious as it helps to calm.

You can set the amount of time for each task which puts you in control. As I worked through each task I could feel myself start to relax and I wasn't in an anxious state so for me that is a massive plus!

You get lovely messages of encouragement as you go along which I think is really nice as it encourages you to continue with the exercises.

I feel this app will really help those with anxiety and other mental health conditions get through a panic attack or to just help them relax before bed to help get a good nights sleep.  I will certainly continue with this app.  It is also a fantastic tool for those who may not be able to afford counselling, as we know that can be very expensive.

A word from the founders

We don't ever see our app as replacing face to face therapy and would never claim to - Our founders as Psychiatrists and Psychologists know how important face to face therapy is. We believe our app is supplementary to people - For those who may not want to seek help, for those who may not be able to afford counselling, and for those who want confidential instant support on a basic level. We don't claim to cure anyones stress or cure anxiety, but we offer a supplementary support tool that can relax you down and encourage you to cope better with every day life.

The app is available on Apple and Android, type Be Stress Free into the app store.  At £1.99 a month you are getting a great tool for an amazing price.  You can also access the app online at http://www.feelstressfree.com/ (you will need to use Chrome or Firefox as it work faster than internet explorer)

  1. My teenager suffers from anxiety so I will recomend this to her. One of her triggers is medical appointments so she really struggles with counselling etc - this may be helpful for her!

  3. Oh that's interesting. I think an app to help guide you when you are caught in a panic situation would be useful. I've had a panic attack in the past and couldn't think straight at the time so this could have been useful - if I'd had the presence of mind to actually use it! For me I just had to 'get out of there' and use my deep breathing.

    1. It is really hard to think straight mid panic attack and the whole "im out of here" feeling becomes very strong. Not only does the app give you the tools to help during an attack, having the actual app as a focus takes your mind off things too x
