The last few days have been so warm and as nice as it has been, if you are going through menopause, you may find your hot flushes increase. No-one needs that added warmth on a hot day (or at all). So with summer well and truly on the go, I have compiled a list of what I do to get me through the sunny days.
Neck Fan
I have just ordered myself a neck fan after hearing so much good about them through the menopause community. It is a must have all year around but will certainly get us through the hot weather and keep our body temperature steady. This one is really affordable at £9.99 on Amazon. It is simple to use. Once charge gives hours of use and even better is it keeps your hands free, so you can use at your desk, doing the housework or when out and about,
Icy Cooling Mist
I absolutely love this little spray. A friend recommended it to me and it is my go to on a hot day. The Avon Icy Cooling mist has a very slight scent which is nice and fresh but the mist reduces hot flushes quickly. I keep mines in the fridge and then take it out when needed. It is amazing how much it helps. When I am waiting on my new one to arrive, I rinse out the old bottle, fill it with water and pop it back in the fridge. At only £7 for 30ml, its a bargain.
Face Mask
This one is good all year around. It makes your skin brighter and softer. During the summer it is so refreshing and cools your skin, Simply pop it on for 20 minutes and sit back and relax. This can be used on all skin types. I have very sensitive skin and it has never been an issue with this mask. Garnier do have other masks but this one is my favourite. You can pick one up at Boots for £3.49.
Showers
I love a nice refreshing shower. It makes me feel human again! This one is a simple tip, turn down the temperature of the shower. I go for a lukewarm shower as it keeps my body temperature down and it feels really good too.
Yes I know, layers in summer, are you mad? There is a method to this madness!! Obviously we will be wearing lighter layers during the summer months but having a thin cardigan over your top can help during hot flushes. By taking that cardigan off, it reduces your hot flush and you start to cool down. It was a consultant at the hospital that told me about this one. It works!!
Water
This is a simple one and I am sure you know about it already but it helps. Drink more water!! It keeps you hydrated, minimal risk of having a hot flush being triggered and it is good for the skin too. If you don't like plain water, there are plenty of lovely flavoured water out there too!!
Bedding
I remove the duvet during the summer and replace it with a thin blanket. Keeps me cool and comfortable enough to get a decent sleep. It also reduces the chance of night sweats.
Windows
I always have the windows open, even at night. Keeps the rooms fresh and cool.
