The Great Outdoors

When I was younger my parents would take us out for long walks.  We have plenty of wooded areas near where we stayed and we would spend hours walking and exploring.  Now that I have children of my own I like to do the same with them.

Liam likes to get in amongst the trees to look at the different leaves and to see if he can find some creepy crawlies to look at.  Sophie loves the height of the trees and, in her words, "the pretty flowers".  Over they years they have brought home different leaves, twigs and flowers.  During Autumn months they love to look for chestnuts and I usually end up with a massive tub full sitting in my kitchen.

During the summer we have a family day out to a massive park which is 20 minutes away by train. We like to spend the day there so we take a nice picnic and a football to let the kids run around in one of the massive open spaces.  Even though the park gets busy during the summer, there is still plenty of space to run around and explore.  After our picnic we take the kids to feed the swans, then we take them exploring to look for squirrels.  The park is also very popular with dog walkers, who keep the place clean. Sophie loves to watch all the different dogs that go by, so we turn it into a game of "Dog Bingo" Liam gets one colour of dog and Sophie another and whoever gets to five first wins.

Here are some other pictures from our nature walks.
