We All Need An Escape

When things get a little too much, like anyone else, I look for a distraction, an escape, from what is bothering me.  As much as we all end up facing the issue head on, sometimes a little time out helps clear our head and helps us to relax.

You may have noticed that I have reviewed a few books over the last couple of months, well that is one way I escape, reading. I love being taken into a whole new world where the character's face every day problems along with some rather massive ones as it just reminds me that we are all the same.  Some people are going through health problems, some have money worries and some have sadly lost people they love but one thing we all have in common is that we come out the other side stronger than ever and ready to face the world and what it throws at us.

Books are just one way I distract, or calm, myself.  Here are some other ways.

  • Music - I will put on a Westlife concert DVD and be taken back to 14 years of memories I have from being a fan.
  • Housework - Mid panic attack is best for getting housework done as it gives the adrenaline somewhere to go and the house is cleaned super quick!
  • Shower - I take a nice long hot shower and sing badly along to the music on my phone
  • Take the dog a walk - Fresh air helps to relieve tension and helps to clear my head
  • Cuddles - I give my kids a big bear hug, that always makes me feel better.
  • Talk - If I can't face it alone I will talk to my husband or phone my mum.
I am about to start a new book, Dream Demon, by B J Davie, It is set in Scotland and is a thriller so I can't wait to get started!

What do you do when you need to escape?

  1. Great post - I need to identify and learn to effectively use some calming strategies, it's too easy to assume you know them and "wing it", but it rarely works.

    1. Thanks. I am sure you will find something that works for you! It took me a while to find mines but music has always been the one thing over the years that has helped, that and singing badly lol x

  3. I agree, talk, shower, cuddle and sing - especially power ballads! Housework is great for when I'm having to wait for someone to arrive or to go to an appointment as it fills time and stops me getting pent up nervous tension.

    1. Yes power ballads are best as you can just belt them out hehe. It's amazing how much of a stress release housework is at times! (never thought i would say that) x

    1. I sometimes turn to tv or Facebook but find the others work best. My husband rarely talks and that's fine we are all different x

  9. I like to go for a walk, and since I've been using a Fitbit I tend to do that most days so it's gone from needing to escape to hardly ever being at home!

  20. A walk with the dog for some peace and quiet or a trip to the hairdressers or nail bar help me to escape. Not that any of those happen very often
