Taking Control of My Future

Over the last few weeks I have been thinking about what I really want to do with my life.  When I left school, I went to college and studied Travel and Tourism.  As much as I enjoyed the course and working in the industry I couldn't help but think something was missing but I wasn't sure what.  A few years ago I found out what that was.

A love of Psychology! When I was 28 I returned to college to study Social Science and I fell in love with psychology. Why? It is so interesting and there is no one exact answer like you would get in maths for example.  I had been offered places at various universities before I fell pregnant with Liam but I was happy to put my studies on hold.  Having my children was the best thing that has ever happened to me but now that Liam is at school and Sophie will be starting nursery later this year I made the decision to continue with my studies.

James, without me knowing, ordered a prospectus from the Open University for me and it arrived this morning.  It was perfect timing as it is something I have been thinking about pretty much every day.
I had a flick through the various courses they offer and I read all the information on each and I made my decision, not easy by the way.  The course I chose?  BSc (Hons) in Psychology.

I can't register for the course until registrations opens on the 12th.  I have looked into the cost etc and due to my circumstances I can have my course fees covered.  I can't begin to tell you how happy and excited I am to be going for this.  Maybe my dream of becoming a clinical psychologist will come true,

  1. Good stuff! Psychology appeals to me too - sadly I didn't really know that was a thing you could do until after I got to university (doing something else).

    1. Thank you. It is a fascinating subject, I could talk about it all day! When I was younger I, the same as yourself, did not know it was something you could do x

  2. How fantastic! I would love to take an OU course (I think!) but whenever I look into it I panic I won't have the time and never make the decision to go for it.

    1. I was the same. It crossed my mind to do it when my son was young and before Sophie was born but changed my mind. You will know when the time is right for you. x

    1. Don't get me wrong T&T was good and I did learn a lot during my HND course (Marketing, Accounts, European union) but when I was working in the industry it just wasn't for me. I hope she goes for it :) tell her I wish her lots of luck for her future x
