The White Lodge Centre

When I was younger I would attend the local youth group every week and would have a great time with my friends.  When I had my children I looked for local playgroups and toddler groups to take them to so they could play and socialise.  I also noticed that some town had centres for children to go to, a large scale playgroup.  One thing I noticed was the lack of centres for children and adults with disabilities to attend.

The White Lodge Centre supports disabled people of all ages.  over 2,000 children and adults with disabilities have already benefited from the work the centre do.  They also support their families and carers in the Surrey area.

"The needs of the children and young people who participate in the activities on offer are diverse and include those with autistic spectrum disorders, physical and learning disabilities and those who require specific procedures to meet their healthcare needs"

Like other charities, the centre rely on donations from the public.  At the moment they are trying to raise £5000 to buy a new Bugzi.  A Bugzi is a powered indoor wheelchair for children (aged 1-6). This gives the children a chance to experience independent mobility, and for some it will be the first time in their lives.  The Bugzi specially is tailored and adapted to the individual child’s needs.

It also gives the children a chance to explore, gives them choices, learn about risk and danger and to socialise with their friends and family.

    1. My cousin had a disability and I know this would have been somewhere that he would have enjoyed. Has your cousin looked into centres near her? Worth a look x

  9. when my daughter was in spica I was so isolated because no baby groups could really engage with her. It was a tough time for us as a family and still feel we really missed out socially because of her additional physical needs.
